Day 6 of self isolation
Man this has been the craziest week ever. I'm sure you have heard about some of it that has been going on. Never in a million years would I have guessed that this turn of events were going to happen.
Last Monday was like our last normal day of missionary work. It started out with both Elder Porter and I seeing the post about how coronavirus affects those and that stateside missionaries would probably be sent home for the next 6 months 3 months early. Since both Elder Porter and I fall into that category, we both thought we would be going home. Later that night, after reading with Steven since we thought missionary work was just going to continue normally, we had a mission phone call where we were told to start doing missionary work from our apartment. That was still kind of a shock.
Then on Tuesday we started our remote apartment work. It was definitely an interesting day trying to figure out how to work from the apartment. We were allowed out to teach that day once. We went and helped our older friend Sherry set up her phone so we can video call her and teach her that way. Hopefully we can get that set up.
Then on Wednesday the news came. President and Sister Hollingsworth called and told us that both of us would be going home on April 9th. It was a little sad, but I am glad I am going home instead of being trapped in the apartment as a missionary for the next few months.
Then on Thursday we had a good time going to the family History Center at the Church. We went to work on My Plan, a program set up with the church to help missionaries "set goals and make plans" (PMG Chapter 8) on what you want to do with your life when you go home. I am excited to work on that. We also had a good lesson with Steven. He is doing well.
Then on Friday we went to the mission office for Elder Porter to work on finishing up some projects to the mission office. During that time I went with Elder Cook to try to drop off a washer on the 2nd floor of the Gulf Port apartment. After getting that out of storage, driving 40 minutes to Gulf Port and hauling the washer up the stairs, we find out that the area where the washer and dryer has a door that is too small to get out either one of the original washers. It was bizarre. That did make it an interesting trip. Elder Cook and I ended up getting ice cream though so it was all worth it.
Then yesterday the only interesting thing that happened is we had a lesson with Sister Wagner. We read 1 Nephi 10 with her which went well. Then after that she started venting to us about what was wrong in the Bishop storehouse from her perspective. It was an interesting conversation. Hopefully we will have a better one next time.
Then yesterday literally as we were walking out the door to go to sacrament with the bishop and his family, they cancelled on us. I was soooo excited to go there since I haven't been able to go to his house yet. It was all good though. We had a good time doing the sacrament here.
Well, that is about it for this week. I hope that all y'all survive the pandemic and until next time, good luck and God Bless!
